VIDEOGRAPHY

Van Halen have released three videos with Warner Bros., but there are a lot more videos (besides the "Early Years" DVD). Looking at their official releases, we have:

Live Without A Net LIVE WITHOUT A NET

After having recorded several clips live, it became clear that a stage is where the band felt more at ease. New Haven was the scenery as the band put out a full set of energic playing (along with one of the most spectacular guitar solos). The performance starts with Sammy's "One Way To Rock" (that featured Edward on bass in the studio album), passes through several "5150" songs and doesn't feature "Jump". It was pure rock and curiously, the band leaves the stage singing Led Zeppelin's cover of "Rock N' Roll". [ + info ]

Van Halen Live: Right Here, Right Now VAN HALEN LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW

Following the release of the band's first live audio album (a 2-CD set), a video was also released. It was filmed in two nights in California during the 1992 "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" tour. It features the band's main successes like "Poundcake" (new single then), "When It's Love", "Right Now", "Finish What Ya Started", "You Really Got Me" mixed with "Cabo Wabo", "Jump" and "Top of the World". It's better produced than it's predecessor but maybe not as intense as the first one. [ + info ]

Video Hits, volume 1 VIDEO HITS, VOLUME 1

This release in solely a compilation of the band's most known (and wanted) video clips: "Jump", "Panama", "Hot For Teacher", "When It's Love", "Finish What Ya Started", "Poundcake", "Runaround", "Right Now" (that won a Grammy for Best Video), "Dreams", "Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do)", "Can't Stop Lovin' You", "Not Enough" and "Without You" (this video was not on VHS or CD, as it was recorded in 1997 with Gary Cherone after the release of the audio compilation). A must for the fans. [ + info ]

But that's not all; Edward's guitar technique and innovative skills have been on the spotlight since "Eruption". There are a lot of releases focusing on Edward's playing and his unique "brown sound". So, unnoficially, there's also:

The Early Years VAN HALEN STORY: THE EARLY YEARS

This video chronicles the rise of four young musicians from their formative years to their transformation into a worldwide phenomenon. Witness the group's gripping tale told by the people who were there when it began: friends, fellow musicians, roadies, producers, you name it. Rare footage and never-before-seen photos help document their remarkable story. The DVD covers all the years with David Lee Roth, and concentrates mostly on the club days and the first world tour. Interviews with many people who were very close to the band. [ + info ]
