Edward Van Halen's gear
KRAMER BARETTA

This guitar is still a players favourite for its playability. Throughout the times, there were various differences in its construction specs. The trem route on US models for Floyd is smaller than overseas. Floyd Rose models may have all been screw-in trem arm at this point. Pickup surround rings unique: angled in a trapezoidal-fashion. Early models had Schaller HB pickups (two holes for pickup mounting) while later had Seymour Duncan JBs (single hole).

The volume knob had a small "volume" printing. Electronics cavity cover screw pattern and neckplate screw pattern not interchangeable with overseas. Input jacks did not use mounting plate.

Also, the earliest models (with body-end neck adjustment) had a smal routing in the neck joint area. The specs for this original (rare) 1984 model are:
  • Headstock: hockey-stick, non-angled;
  • Fretboard: rosewood (standard) or maple (as option);
  • Nut: Floyd Rose R-2;
  • Neck: maple;
  • Neck finish: light satin finish, some had oil finish;
  • Neck Plate: Strat sized black plate;
  • Tuners: Gotoh style 6-inline;
  • Pickup: Schaller Zebra Humbucker (with trapezoidal ring mount);
  • Tremolo: Original Floyd Rose mounted flat to the body (not recessed);
  • Controls: single volume knob with small "volume" lettering;
  • Input: cord input with no metal mount;
  • Truss Rod: at the base of the neck with a cutout in the body for access;
  • Electronics cavity: trapezoidal (common Kramer route).
