Edward Van Halen's guitars
PEAVEY WOLFGANG SPECIAL EXP MAROON QUILT

In the Wolfgang hierarchy, this is the budget guitar... with all the advantages and drawbacks attached

The bridge is, like in all other models, a Floyd Rose licensed double locking trem, with a patented D-tuner. The body is solid basswood but the top in simply a thin maple cover. The Wolfgang Special EXP has a bound flat top.

While some of these guitars are OK, the quality on many is bad. It is the only Wolfgang model made outside the USA. It can be identified by the quilt top and only one knob (volume but no tone). Actually, you can't call it a top as it is a .020 thin slice of veneer that is glued on. Thus, this guitar will not have the tonal qualities of one with a maple top. The tops look nice on these, but that is where it ends. Cheaper hardware, neck, etc.

These were first offered in 2003. The guitar specs are:
  • Measures: 12-5/8" wide, 1-3/4" thick, 36-1/4" long;
