Comparing this guitar to the Standard models, there is also a three position toggle switch for the pick ups, a volume control, but no tone knob?! How could something so crucial to a guitars sound be missing? After only a few moments of playing this wonderful instrument was it obvious that it didn't need a tone control; this guitar
is tone. The two Humbuckers are custom designed to Edward Van Halen's specifications, and the oil-finished hardrock maple neck (which is graphite reinforced) feels broken in from the first time you pick it up.
The bridge is a Floyd Rose licensed double locking trem, with a patented D-tuner. Not only is this drop D mechanism handy, it holds tune at all times. After initially adjusting the fine tuners, it's never required to be touched again.
The body is solid basswood, giving the instrument a very rich sustain without being heavy. This is one guitar that won't break your back after a long gig. The Wolfgang Special differs very little from it's more expensive big brother, the Wolfgang. The Special is not bound, and has a flat top. Aside from those things, it's difficult to be able to tell the differences.
