When Guitar World’s March 2007 Eddie Van Halen cover story hit newsstands three years ago, some fans thought that the picture of Eddie looked strange or unnatural and that perhaps some major Photoshop work had been done to the picture. They thought that Ed’s face might have been superimposed over a different shot of his body, or that perhaps the magazine actually superimposed his face over someone else’s body, entirely.

Turns out that VH fan with the internet handle “LAD-1972″ figured out the answer. He came across the exact two photos, shot by Ross Halfin, that Guitar World chose from the photoshoot.

As LAD-1972 shows us with this animated GIF that he made, Guitar World did indeed combine two different photos of Edward, and that the body was Ed’s after all.

Mystery solved.
