The collaboration between Edward Van Halen and Fender Musical Instruments Corporation began in 2004 when the striped Charvel models were made available and used on the reunion tour with Sammy Hagar (by then, Charvel was already a part of FMIC).

Then, early in 2007, Edward presented the exact replica of his original Frankenstein, something he refers to as "his baby".This guitar is the lates version of what it took Eddie more than 10 years to develop... it was originally black and white (cover of VH's first album) but it evolved until Edward hanged it, circa 1985.
In one of the most anticipated events in electric guitar history, Eddie Van Halen and the master builders of the Fender Custom Shop in Corona (Chip Ellis is the man !), have teamed up to introduce EVH® brand guitars, amps and musical products, beginning with a painstaking recreation of one of the most recognized guitars in the world: the red-black-and-white striped “Frankenstein™” guitar played by Eddie throughout his remarkable career.
Seldom in the history of guitar playing can monumental change be attributed to a single guitarist; a musician whose contributions amount to nothing short of a re-imagining of the instrument’s possibilities, and whose playing abilities and innovations are so utterly dazzling as to be considered truly revolutionary.
Only 301 units of these replicas were ever produced (one for Edward and the other 300 that were sold almost instantly for around $25000 each - check
this one).

Regarding the Wolfgang, Edward considers it a 'space shuttle quality' upgrade from the Peavey model. Nothing about it is standard and no expenses were spared to make it a top-shelf guitar (maybe that's why it hit the market at a mere $3000).
