Edward started using prototype Peavey amps around 1990 and they eventually became his signature Peavey 5150 amps. This 2-channel amp (clean and distortion) was later upgraded to the 3-channel (clean, crunch, lead) 5150 II.

Setting up its connections, the guitar goes into the 5150's high gain input. Rhythm channel is used for rhythm, with bright and crunch switches both activated. Lead channel is used for lead.
All power is supplied by Furman power conditioners. The settings Edward uses on his Peaveys heads are:
- Rhythm (pre gain) = 7;
- Lead (pre gain) = 5.5;
- Bass = 6;
- Middle = 2;
- High = 5;
- Resonance = 3;
- Presence = 7
For some, the Peavey 5150 series are all valve guitar amplifiers which can be thought of as a cross between a Soldano SLO-100 and a Marshall. These amplifiers are aimed directly at rock players. They certainly don't disappoint.
The controls are all familiar with the possible exception of the 'resonance' control. This dial allows one to tune the resonant peak of the amp specifically for the type of cab and it's location. Basically it's a way of keeping the bass end of the sound tight and gutsy, and never allowing it to sound indistinct and "woolly". It's an excellent feature and means you can dial in that "chugg, chugga" sound that your neighbours really love.
The Presense dial deals with the high end of the sound giving the sound clarity and bite. You really can't dial in a bad sound with this amp and the famed "brown sound" is easily produced as are crunchy rhythms and searing solo sounds. With most other amps, a little reverb or delay is required to sweeten things up, but the 5150 sounds so good that one really can plug straight into it and sound good. This may be why a spring reverb was omitted from the head, but I think a nice digital reverb is better than any spring reverb.
The 5150 thus, has a good FX loop round the back in which to send your signal to your FX units etc. The two channels are foot switchable (supplied) and there is an FX on/off switch too, so you can activate the amp FX loop rather than by-passing via the FX unit itself-nice touch.
