The man behind the (striped) guitar
EDWARD VAN HALEN

Since his first customized Strat until today, there's one thing in common about Edward's guitars... and that's the stripes !!!

There have been striped guitars, striped electric drills, striped album covers, striped amps, stripes everywhere... but there's a lot more to say when it comes to guitars that Edward has played. Click on one of the logos below to learn more:

Charvel Kramer Ernie Ball Music Man
CHARVEL KRAMER ERNIE BALL

Peavey EVH Other Guitars
PEAVEY EVH [ other ]

When he left Kramer, there were a few companies flooding him with striped prototypes, but that wasn't what he wanted from a guitar. If you look closely, there's not a lot in common between the Kramer and the Ernie Ball Music Man guitar, which is even more obvious when you compare the sound of "OU812" and "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge".

But when it comes to amps and effects, despite using Marshall amplification, MXR effects, Bradshaw systems for a long time, Edward has officially worked with a few companies:

Peavey d-tuna MXR Other Gear
PEAVEY D-TUNA MXR [ other ]

Edward Van Halen playing live back in 1982

Through all the upheaval over lead vocalists, Eddie Van Halen and his prodigious talent remained at the core of Van Halen. The son of a Dutch bandleader, Eddie and his family moved from the Netherlands to Pasadena, California in 1967, when he was 12 years old and his older brother Alex was 14.

As their father supported the family by playing in wedding bands, Eddie and Alex continued their classical piano training. Soon, both boys were enraptured by rock & roll. Eddie learned how to play drums and Alex took up the guitar, eventually switching instruments.
